"We wish to thank all of the Cedar Mill Bible Church volunteers who
stepped forward to help with the Vernonia flood recovery. We are so
proud of all of you! Over the past 12 weeks, more than 140 of you
have traveled to Vernonia to help. You have gutted eight houses,
repaired the Vernonia Christian Church building so they could hold
services, helped with their worship services, worked at the Vernonia
Cares Food Bank and distribution center, helped many others in the
neighborhood when you saw the need, and rebuilt two houses. Everyone
at the Vernonia Christian Church expressed their gratitude for our
help. Rob, manager of the Vernonia Volunteer Workers Center,
mentioned that FEMA is paying the City of Vernonia for the volunteer
hours worked and that CMBC alone has added over $8,000 to the city's
coffers.
Similar to the Hurricane Katrina recovery work, the rebuilding
effort is just the by-product of what really happens when we step
forward to serve the Lord and to share His love with others. We have
been blessed by working alongside people of all ages, some we have
never met even though we attend the same church. The fondest
memories we have are the new friends we have made through this
adventure. Every Saturday evening after we returned home we laughed
at how God once again provided the exact number of people with the
exact talents needed to do the jobs we had planned for that day.
Again, thanks to all of you!" -CMBC members
